Tale of The Almost Extinct Animals - America's Spirit Bear

And here i come again with the tale of the amazing almost extinct animals, this time i am so interested in discussing the america's Spirit Bear, they say it is only about 400-1000 of them left in the jungle in the central and north coast of British Columbia, Canada. I first lay my eyes on these beautiful creature when watching this amazing TV Program from National Geographic Wild called Untamed Americas. Their species have a real name called Kermode Bear, but is often called spirit bear particularly to the Native tribes of Alaska, most likely because of the brighter color of the fur they have. When encountering with one of this bear, we will surely misjudge them as polar bear, because of the white or cream-coloured coats they have, and also the fact that them being one of the more amazing and almost extinct animal, especially in the bear community. This Spirit Bear is genetically different from other kinds of bear, it has a white fur and a cuter face in my honest opinion, you could check them out soon.

The Kermode lives only in Canada, and can be found between the Burke Channel in the south and roughly up to the Nass River in the north. Although, no one is sure exactly how far north Kermodes roam.

These somewhat "magical" bears live in coastal rainforests on the islands off British Columbia’s coast.
Much like their relatives, they snuggle down for winter. They lounge in a den, under a tree or among fallen tree roots. Gigantic cedars provide the ideal home.

For a snack, a Kermode will eat plants. It eats berries when available and salmon is a key part of their diet. During certain months, salmon is plentiful in the rivers throughout the Kermode range; although, human activity in some locations has harmed salmon populations.

Few Kermodes have been exposed to humans, so they have no reason to fear them. If tourists become too plentiful, however, that might change.

Also i almost forgot the Kermode name is named after Francis Kermode, former director of the Royal B.C. Museum, who researched the subspecies and a colleague of William Hornaday, the zoologist who described it.

It is truly fascinating how in a moss-draped rain forest with all the towering red cedars which have lived a thousand years, black bears are born with white fur, it sure is the not to miss tale of the amazing almost extinct animal, the Kermode a.k.a "Spirit Bear".

Tale of The Almost Extinct Ancient Animals: The Living Dinosaurs White Sturgeon

I still can't believe that there are actually so many creatures that i don't know exist in this planet, earth. the same goes to this animal i am about to share and discuss with you all, the creature that lived from way back in the dinosaurs era, the almost extinct ancient animal, the white sturgeon. I have always liked Jakub Vagner, the extreme angler from Czech Republic, he is best known for his television series Fish Warrior, shown on National Geographic Channel. And it was this television series when i first saw this living dinosaur, the white sturgeon. They are literally magnificent, they said this creature mostly lived their life in the ocean, that they only come to the freshwater to spawn, they used to come and spawn a lot more often than today, it is said they come more rarely but spawned more eggs each time, everyone hopes that could balance the changes, but the truth is far below all's expectation, they are now on the brink of extinction, what's more sad is that it is not easy to find a full grown up white sturgeon, because it will need decades for a sturgeon to reach its maximum physical appearance, which is about 20-feet.

The white sturgeon is the largest freshwater fish in North America and is the third largest species of sturgeon, after the Beluga and the Kaluga. The white sturgeon is known to reach a maximum size of 816 kg (1,799 lb) and 6.1 m (20 ft).

The white sturgeon lives on the bottom of slow-moving rivers, bays, and estuarine areas, including the brackish water at the mouths of large rivers. Other sturgeon will spend most of its time in a marine environment, only coming into rivers to spawn. They are well-adapted to finding food drifting by with their excellent sense of smell and taste. When there is an insufficient food supply, sturgeon have been known to move into shallow water to eat freshwater clams.

During the spawning season, the white sturgeon moves to clean, fast-moving areas of rivers, such as just below rapids, with gravel or larger rocks along the bottom.

The largest sturgeon caught on record was caught on Fraser River, in British Columbia, and weighed an estimated 1,100 pounds (498.9 kg) and measured 12 feet, 4 inches (3.75 m). The sturgeon was caught by Michael Snell of Salisbury, England, and it was not long ago too, it was on July of this year.

How would you feel if you could actually help them from extinction? Would you do it? It's so easy, for all of you who is moved to contribute in helping this almost extinct ancient animal, the white sturgeon which is also a living dinosaurs, just click this link, Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society. Through that society you could even adopt a sturgeon,  isn't that great? I will not lie to you, i have not adopted them myself, but i am sure planning to adopt the white sturgeon as soon as i could in the future, i really wanted to help, but considering my situation now, it can't be help, but i have not give up, i will work harder until i could have at least one of this almost extinct ancient animal, from the dinosaurs era, the white sturgeon of course.

Most Amazing Recently Extinct Animals

For this past couple of weeks, i have been thinking hard to come up with an idea of post which will perform both as blog warmer and also to keep our spirit of helping prevent the extinction on animals to happen further high, as high as the sky, so this is what i have come up with, the list of most amazing recently extinct animals.
With this list i really hope we animal lovers will see how these amazing and beautiful animals could be saved from extinction if we were more aware in the past, what a shame that those incredible creatures have leave us from this planet earth, it will touch our deepest soul, and all of us will think this: "What should we do to help them almost extinct animals?" and "We don't want to see this disaster happen again" And then hopefully they will take action immediately. If that is really the case, then it means we could save them, if we do it together, i really believe we will surely save them.

Western Black Rhinoceros, 2011

A subspecies of the black rhino that lived mainly in Cameroon, the western black rhino was a victim of rampant poaching, even after protections were issued in the 1930s. Scientists searched for any signs in 2006 and came up empty, and it was offically declared extinct in 2011. The other 3 remaining subspecies of black rhinos are also critically endangered.

Declared extinct in 2006, a video of what appeared to be a baiji dolphin was taken in 2007. The species is still considered "functionally extinct", meaning that if there is only one of a few old creatures alive, no new ones will be born, truly one of the most amazing recently extinct animal, what a shame, right?

Caribbean Monk Seal, 2008

Although the last one seen alive was in 1952, it wasn't until 2008 that the caribbean monk seal was finally declared extinct. Christopher Columbus recorded killing a few of these seals when he arrived in the Caribbean, and they were hunted extensively during the in the 1700s and 1800s for their blubber, which was used as oil for lamps and machinery.

According to the notes from a zookeeper at the New York Aquarium, which had a few of these seals in the early 1900s, these cheeky seals had a habit of spraying water from their mouths at visitors who leaned in too close over the railing.

Canarian Oystercatcher, 1994

These shorebirds lived on the Canary Islands off the coast of west Africa, and died out due to depletion of its shellfish food source due to commercial fishing. It's unclear exactly when the last birds died, local lighthouse keepers and fishermen said they hadn't seen it by 1940, but reports of sightings happened through the '80s. By 1994, it was officially declared extinct. Only 4 specimen of stuffed birds exist in museums today.

Ivory-billed Woodpecker, 1994

After habit loss of the swamps of the southern U.S., the last difinitive sighting was in the 1940s. Since then, there's been multiple reports of sightings, and a 2002 audio recording of the distinct sound it makes when pecking a tree sparked a flood of scientists and birders to come search for it. Despite some promising leads and tantalizing clues, the bird still remains officially extinct.

Mariana Mallard, 2004

Living only on three small Pacific islands, including Guam, habitat loss from draining marshes for agriculture and damage to the islands during World War II was the main reason for this duck's extinction. The last pair of ducks were spotted in the wild in 1979, and the last known pair in captivity died at Sea World in San Diego in 1981.

Javan Tiger, 1994

The last of this subspecies of Spanis ibex died in the wild in 2000 when a tree fell on her. Scientist had taken samples of the last ibex's DNA in 1999, and in 2009 scientist had mixed the DNA with domestic goat eggs to create a clone. However, the cloned baby ibex died shortly after birth due to lung defects.

Non-native species, particularly pigs, cats, and rats, have wreaked havoc on Hawaii's ecosystem over the last few centuries, and most likely contributed to the decline of this unique bird. After an unsuccessful effort to get the last few remaining birds to breed, the last bird died in 2004. Technically, it's still listed as "critically endangered", but none birds have turned up in the wild after extensive searching for the last few years.

There you go, the memorial as well as reminder for us all that the planet we live in is not getting any better if we don't take action immediately. Take the above animals as example of course, it might be the today's most amazing recently extinct animals, but that will not last that long if we were to leave the other animals which are endangered all alone, more animals could join this list, and we sure don't wan't that to happen, right? For now, while we do simple things like not littering, at least we could still enjoy looking at the photos of these most amazing recently extinct animals.

Amazing Extinct Animals That Supposed To Be Resurrected By Cloning

Cloning might be bad for human, because most of us believe that any person is individually different between one and another. But that is definitely not the case for animals, because these amazing extinct animals that i'm about to share will be awesome if resurrected through cloning technology. Here i would like to discover and share with you guys some of the most amazing extinct animals that are supposed to be resurrected by cloning, why? One reason, actually one bold reason, because they simply deserve it, how great could it be if extinct ancient animals like woolly mammoth or even the dinosaurs could be seen living and well once again, although it will a very hard thing to do, i do believe them scientists could pull it off, it will take maybe 5 or more years, but it will certainly worth it to wait that long.

Dolly The Sheep

Extinct Animals Cloned as Dolly The Sheep
In 1997, Dolly the sheep is cloned, it was by scientists in Scotland who has created Dolly at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, which was actually born on 5 July 1996.
Dolly is the first mammal to have been successfully cloned from an adult cell. Previous clonings have been from embryo cells. The sheep's birth has been heralded as one of the most significant scientific breakthroughs of the decade although it is likely to spark ethical controversy. One of the major objective set by doing this research is to study genetic diseases for which there is presently no cure and track down the mechanisms that are involved. At this point you might be wondering how come this was shared which was not anything about any amazing extinct animals, right? Well, you should not worry even a bit, this is just the beginning, you'll see more.

Woolly Mammoth

Now how about this giant creature as the first real amazing extinct animal to be resurrected through cloning. It was early in 2011, where Japanese scientists announced that they planned to clone a woolly mammoth within five years.

The clock is ticking, but with a little luck these ice age behemoths may soon become the first inhabitants of the world's first zoo for extinct animals. Hopefully they will pull this off, we'll check it out in 2016, see you then.

Dodo

Extinct Animals Resurrected by Cloning Dodo
Perhaps the world's most notorious extinct animal, the dodo was driven to extinction a mere 80 years after its discovery. Since the bird's habitat on the island of Mauritius contained no natural predators, the dodo evolved to have no fear of humans and was easily clubbed to death, what a way to be exterminated, while it could easily become one of the most amazing extinct animals to be resurrected by cloning.

It is believed that DNA samples have recently been retrieved from museum samples housed at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, making the dodo a good candidate for this process.

Declared "functionally extinct" as recently as 2006, the Baiji River dolphin became the first cetacean to go extinct in modern times due primarily to human influence. Because of its recent extinction, however, DNA can still be easily extracted from remains. In fact, efforts to retrieve and store the animal's DNA are under way.

Like with many extinct species, however, the question remains about whether the Baiji River dolphin would have a home to return to after being resurrected. The Yangtze River system, where this dolphin was found, remains heavily polluted.

Pyrenean Ibex

Check out this next amazing extinct animal, you see the last known Pyrenean ibex was a female named Celia, who was killed by a falling tree in 2000. Her DNA was used to create a clone.

The Pyrenean ibex became the first extinct animal to ever become un-extinct, unfortunately it only last for seven minutes.

The cloned fetus, which contained reanimated DNA from the last known living Pyrenean ibex, was successfully brought to term after being implanted in the womb of a living domestic goat. Although the ibex died of lung difficulty seven minutes after birth, the breakthrough ensures the inevitability of resurrecting extinct species.

Huia

Amazing Extinct Animals Resurrected by Cloning, Huia
This bird with its highly unique beaked, once endemic to the North Island of New Zealand, became extinct in the early 20th century after museum demand for mounted specimens reached a peak. Due in part to the bird's popularity as a mascot and national symbol within New Zealand, a project was recently launched and approved to clone and resurrect the huia.

Passenger Pigeon

amazing-extinct-animals-resurrected-by-cloning-passenger-pigeon
Amazing Extinct Animals Resurrected by Cloning, Passenger Pigeon
As recently as 200 years ago, flocks of passenger pigeons numbering in the billions blanketed the North American sky. By 1914, the species had been wiped out by merciless hunting campaigns. Now thanks to cloning technology, the animal that was once the most numerous bird in North America might have a second chance. Museum specimens, feathers and other remnants of these birds still exist, and because they are so closely related to the mourning dove, finding a surrogate mother would be easy, now this is a very good news for us who waits eagerly for the reality of most amazing extinct animals that are resurrected by cloning.

Woolly Rhinoceros

amazing-extinct-animals-resurrected-by-cloning-woolly-rhinoceros
Amazing Extinct Animals Resurrected by Cloning Woolly Rhinoceros
The woolly mammoth wasn't the only massive hairy creature as The woolly rhinoceros also stomped through the Arctic snow as recently as 10,000 years ago. The animal also appears frequently in ancient cave art, such as at Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave in France.

Amazing Extinct Animals Resurrected by Cloning Woolly Rhinoceros
And for all of the same reasons that the previously mentioned woolly mammoth makes a good candidate for resurrection, so it is with the woolly rhino as well. Well-preserved specimens frequently become exposed in Arctic permafrost.

Moa

amazing-extinct-animals-resurrected-by-cloning-moa
Amazing Extinct Animals, Moa
These giant flightless birds, similar in appearance to ostriches and emus but without vestigial wings, were once the world's largest birds. Because moas were hunted to extinction as recently as 600 years ago, their feathers and eggs can still be found relatively intact. In fact, moa DNA has already been extracted from ancient eggshells, and projects to clone the moa have already been attempted.

Neanderthal

amazing-extinct-animals-resurrected-by-cloning-neanderthal
Amazing Extinct Animals Resurrected by Cloning, Neanderthal
The Neanderthal is perhaps the most controversial extinct species eligible for cloning and resurrection, primarily due to logistics: The surrogate species would be us. As the most recently extinct member of the Homo genus, Neanderthals are widely considered a subspecies of modern humans. Cloning them might be controversial, but it could also be illuminating.
A Neanderthal clone would also probably be most viable. Scientists have already completed a rough draft of the Neanderthal genome, for instance.
But what we should be asking ourselves is "should we do it?"

Don't you just love the above idea of saving the amazing extinct animals through cloning? Imagine we could finally see the ancient animals with our own eyes, that would be so amazing, especially with the ones that we often see in movies, like the dinosaurs for instance. That's it for now, i'll be signing off with my finger crossed to see this whole idea of resurrecting the amazing extinct animals through cloning come true.
